Biography
Oaklea Rowe, Soprano
Ms Rowe is a native of Denver Colorado and holds a BM in Vocal Performance from the University of Denver, Lamont School of Music. She is proving to be a versatile performer with an exciting vocal range and excellent stage presence. Her roles include Countess, The Marriage of Figaro, First Lady, The Magic Flute, Hanna, The Merry Widow, Manon, Manon Lescaut, and Gianetta in The Elixir of Love. She has been a soloist for The Spirituals Project, The Denver Brass and Opera Colorado and in 2006 was a featured soloist in the World Premiere of “The Spirit of Frederick Douglass” performed with the Shadow Theatre Company in Denver. She is a passionate recitalist having sung in both Denver and New York (Mannes College, The New School for Music) performing classical, musical theater and traditional spirituals. She has been a Regional Finalist in various vocal competitions including The West Valley Symphony Young Artist Competition, The National Negro Musicians Association, The Metropolitan Opera Council Auditions and was a two-time finalist in the Denver Lyric Opera Guild Competition. Ms Rowe was honored to be a 2008 and 2009 recipient of a music grant for career advancement from Allied Arts Inc. This past May she had the oppurtunity to compete with some of the east coast's finest aspiring African American vocalists in the Harlem Opera Theatre Vocal Competiton in NY and recently completed her season as a Resident Artist with Opera Company of Brooklyn.
